Course Description:

This cutting-edge ground control and edged weapon countermeasures instructor course is an advanced 'train the trainer' course. Students will learn high percentage grounded control tactics in tandem with edged and impact weapon countermeasures, specific to law enforcement. Topics include: understanding leverage, positioning and proper footwork, grounded positions of advantage and disadvantage (i.e., guard, side control, mount, back control), maintaining dominant positions. escaping from inferior positions, understanding the dynamics of an edged weapon attack, preventing an imminent attack, countering an edged weapon ambush, edged weapon countermeasures from standing and grounded positions, use of a duty knife as a backup weapon, use of improvised weapons as a backup static and dynamic drills of techniques and tactics to better solidify recall under stress.

In addition to the topics listed above, students will be taught the most up to date, relevant teaching methods and are expected to perform teach-backs on several of the lessons taught in the course. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be issued instructor certification, allowing them to instruct the course material, within their respective agencies, for a three-year period. They will also have direct access to the instructors of Virtus Tactical Training should any follow-up assistance be required.

This is a physically demanding course that requires the student’s willingness to both learn and perform. Students will receive one hour lunch break daily, with shorter breaks throughout the training day. Students are encouraged wear comfortable clothing for the training.

Course Outline:

Days 1-2 Fundamentals of LE specific ground control, instructor development

Day 3 LE ground control & intro to edged weapons, instructor development

Day 4 Edged & impact weapon concepts, instructor development

Day 5 LE ground control & edged weapon countermeasures, instructor test out/teach-backs

Who should attend?

Active Law Enforcement, Corrections and Military. Special considerations for select private security groups (determined by Virtus Tactical staff).

Required Equipment:

Duty belts (no live weapons), vest (stripped of all sharps and metal), training knife (preferably SOCP or similar), training pistol that fits in the holster properly, clear training glasses.
